42,000 km later… A new all-time record

17 Jun 2025

That’s it, we think we’ve found it. Until proven otherwise, the Bike 43 with the most kilometers covered is located in Berlin, with the Darmon family!

Without waiting, we jumped on the Brussels-Berlin night train to meet Adunna, Nora, and their two daughters Mathilda and Carlotta. Together, this incredible family has covered almost 42,000 km on their trusty Bike43 in the streets of the German capital, all that in just 5 years.

It’s in 2020, during the Covid pandemic, that they decide to buy a Bike 43 at the Velogut bikeshop. As a car-less family, they do everything with it: take the children to school, go to work, do the shopping, go on vacation, and so on. Responsible for several outpatient care facilities, Nora also uses it in her profession, and travels tirelessly up and down Berlin all year round.

They even use it to get the Christmas tree!

But why did they choose our longtail? The Darmon family answers:

“For us, it was important to have a compact, all-purpose cargo bike that could be carried on the train, for example. We also wanted it to feel smooth and pleasant to ride, just like a normal bike. With a Long John bike, children quickly run out of room. A longtail can be used for longer, and we can even sit in the back now – there’s so much room. »

And how did their bike, equipped with Shimano nexus 5 and E6100 motor, endure all those kilometers? Without flinching! Only the motor had to be replaced, along with the battery. Shimano’s after-sales service supplied a new motor free of charge, which unfortunately distorts the odometer. 32,000 km displayed, but promised, they did 42,000 kms.

To congratulate them on their record-breaking achievement, we’ve given the Darmon family some recently updated accessories: wheelsguards, steps-in and front basket.

We wish them many more happy kms on their metallic red Bike 43, pushing further the limits of the bike durability. They’ve even managed to cover more kilometers than Etienne, the bike’s founder !
